What You Need to Start WhatsApp Business?
You only need two things:
- Phone Number (You can set up Business Profile using your business’s mainline instead of a mobile number.)

1) How to Set Up WhatsApp Business Account (Using mainline instead of mobile)
First, you will need to install WhatsApp Business app.
Once downloaded from app store, launch the app and click on “Agree and Continue“.
Next, key in your mainline or mobile number to verify your account.
If you want to use your business’s mainline, wait for 63 seconds, and click on the “Call me” option when it’s available.
Now, be ready with your pen and paper!
WhatsApp Business will immediately call you and read out the verification code.
Use that code to verify your WhatsApp Business account.
Next, you will need to enter your business info. *IMPORTANT: Once you set your business name, it can’t be changed.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully set up your WhatsApp Business account.

Creating and customising WhatsApp Business Profile
Open WhatsApp Business App > Tap the menu button > Settings > Business settings > Profile.
Within the profile, you can customise your:
- Business address
- Business category
- Business description
- Profile photo
- Business hours
- Email address
- Website URL
Access WhatsApp Business from Web Browser
You can easily access WhatsApp Business Web using your internet browser on PC.
Just go to https://web.whatsapp.com, open your WhatsApp Business app and click on the top right menu, WhatsApp Web, and then scan QR code using your mobile phone to login.
Messaging People in Your Contact List
Once you added the person into your mobile phone contact list, you’ll be able to message them via the app.
However, when they received your WhatsApp message, it will only display your business contact number (Unless they have added your number to their contact list previously).
This is also why it is essential that you set up your WhatsApp Business Profile correctly, as the customer can/will click on the (i) to view your profile.
Automate Using Greeting Message and Away Message
You can greet a customer when they message you the first time or after 14 days of no activity.
To turn the function on: Go to settings > Business settings > Greeting message > Send Greeting Message.
All human needs rest, so it is a good idea to set your “Away Message” when no one is around to response to messages.
Go to settings > Business settings > Away message > “Activate away message” and then, customise your away message.
You can also schedule when you want the message to appear:
- Always send
- Custom schedule
- Outside of business hours
Do Less Work, Use Quick Replies
If you know what are the frequently asked questions, and you readily have the answers, why not reuse it?
Go to setting > Business settings > Quick replies
Key in your quick reply message, and then the Shortcut key.

As the number of chats increase, you will need a way to quickly sort through the ocean of chatters. Using label, you can group your chats.
Tap the menu button > Labels
2) Integrate WhatsApp Business Into Your Website (Quick & Easy)
Now that you’ve set up your WhatsApp Business account, how can you get people to message you?
Include a button (using WhatsApp’s Click to Chat feature) on your website to initiate the conversation.
Go ahead, click on the above button to test it. It will launch WhatsApp if you’re reading this on mobile.

The approach was so popular with VIPs that Agent Provocateur’s launched a similar WhatsApp promotion named Ménage à Trois for all customers during Christmas.
WhatsApp users could invite a personal shopper into a group conversation with their partner to discuss what they wanted for Christmas.
Agent Provocateur’s team of style advisers answered the questions manually, engaging with each couple.
The campaign led to 112 conversations, with 31% of the chats resulted in store visits and 61% converted to website traffic.
Offer one-on-one help to inspire new uses for a product
Hellmann’s in Brazil wanted to inspire people to think of mayonnaise as a cooking ingredient, not just a condiment.
So they invited visitors to their website to submit their phone numbers along with a picture of the contents of their refrigerator.
They were then connected through WhatsApp with real chefs, who came up with a recipe using Hellmann’s and the other ingredients in their fridge.
The chefs even taught the users how to cook the meal through pictures, videos, and other WhatsApp features.
A total of 13,000 participants spent an average of 65 minutes interacting with the brand, and 99.5% of them approved of the service.
Paid Features Are Likely Coming
As you may have realised by now, WhatsApp Business currently does not support paid advertising/features… yet.
In 2017, WhatsApp chief operating officer, Matt Idema, told the Wall Street Journal that the company eventually plans to launch paid features for businesses.
For now, while WhatsApp isn’t as feature-rich as Facebook Messenger for marketing, it has plenty of chances of turning into something really big and with the addition of WhatsApp Payments, it is moving in that direction.
